SIR MAX AITKEN

Sir Max Aitken.Arun class lifeboat 52-17.
Served in the relief fleet from new, 1981-2002.
Maintained in RNLI condition by present owners and now surplus to requirements.

Designer: RNLI
Builders: Halmatic

Construction:
GRP Construction with Semi Displacement underwater profile, paint finish. The Arun is the first lifeboat ever to win a Design Council Award which was presented to the RNLI by His Royal Highness, the Duke of Edinburgh in 1982.
The watertight superstructure provides buoyancy to initiate self righting if the boat should capsize. The hull is based on a design by A Mclachlan of Watsons of Glasgow and the fit out and superstructure were designed by the RNLI’s own Technical Department.
The hull is divided into 26 watertight compartments. Void spaces are filled with buoyant materials, giving reserve buoyancy if the vessel is holed.
Accommodation
There are two survivors cabins below deck containing rescue equipment including first aid gear, stretchers, emergency rations and blankets. The Coxswain can steer from inside the wheelhouse or from a flying bridge on top of the superstructure.
The vessel in equipped with a comprehensive range of up to date navigation and safety equipment.
The Y Boat powered by a Mariner 15hp outboard is housed on the flying bridge
